The First and Ten Club of
Alabama
helps
University of Alabama
student athletes transition to business careers upon graduation from the University.
The organization is made up of about 170 former athletes, alumni and friends of
the University who are committed to increasing awareness among the student athletes
of potential career opportunities.

Originally founded under legendary
coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, the group also awards two scholarships annually to graduating
seniors who are pursuing a masters level degree. We believe in helping athletes
acknowledge and prepare for life after athletics.
A large part of our efforts
are geared toward educating athletes during our annual Career Day each spring. The
Career Day is designed to give athletes the chance to learn about different career
fields and talk with professionals who work in those areas, including former
University of Alabama
athletes.
Career Day
Career Day is held each spring
(planned for April 20th this year) in the Club Room of Coleman Coliseum. Each year
we have a well-known speaker and then the athletes are able to attend one of several
break-out sessions.
Past keynote speakers have
included Colin Powell, Roger Staubach, Eddie Robinson and Gene Stallings.
The break-out sessions are
where athletes can learn more about various career paths with presentations and
Q&A periods on a variety of job areas. Our Career Day is not a job fair -- it's
a career path education center. For example, athletes can learn about careers in
law enforcement, finance, business management, insurance, engineering, banking,
sales, medical practice, etc.
The sessions will expose students
to the type of work performed in these careers, and will help them understand the
requirements for gaining and initial job and advancement along a career path. Our
goal is to expose them to a wide range of opportunities that are available after
their athletic careers are over.
